coffee spill on carpet

Coffee Spill

Need-to-Know Info

You spilled some coffee on your carpet. What to do?
Let's get right to it:

Prompt attention to spots and spills is essential. No carpet is stain proof, although many are stain resistant, so you have a little time to act.

Remember: Always blot, never rub or scrub, as a fuzzy area in your carpet may result. When blotting, work from the outer edge in toward the center of the spill to avoid spreading the it.

  • Gather these materials:
  • Vinegar-water Solution (see recipe on this page)
  • Detergent-water Solution (see recipe on this page)
  • Container to Mix Solutions
  • White Paper Towels or Cloth Towel or Rag
  • Cool Water

Follow these
Recommended Steps:

  1. Apply the white vinegar-water solution to a white towel and blot or spray onto spot.
  2. Blot the stained area with white towels dampened with cool water until there is no more transfer of the stain onto the towels.
  3. If any of the stain remains, use the detergent solution. Spray lightly onto the spot, and blot repeatedly with white towels, working from the outer edge in toward the center of the spot to avoid spreading.
  4. Rinse thoroughly by spraying with clean water, then blot again.
  5. Draw out any remaining moisture by placing several layers of white towels over the spot, and weigh them down with a heavy object that will not transfer color such as a plastic jug of water.
